R-E-G-I-S-T-E-R for the 2019 Daily News Spelling Bee
NYC public school teachers, principals, and staff members can register their schools for the 2019 Daily News Spelling Bee! But don’t buzz around; apply by Friday, November 2.
It’s time for NYC schools to start buzzing for spelling bees!
From now until November 2, NYC public schools can register their students in grades 5–8 for the Daily News Spelling Bee.
Now in its 55th year, the Daily News Spelling Bee provides New York’s top young spellers with a proving ground to test and hone their orthographic skills. In addition to bragging rights, the competition’s top two students earn the right to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, the U.S.’s oldest and largest spelling competition.
Students who wish to participate in the Daily News Spelling Bee must do so through their schools—teachers, administrators (i.e. principals, assistant principals), and school staff members can register their schools via the Scripps National Spelling Bee’s registration page. The registration fee for schools is $160, and schools must name a designated spelling bee coordinator during the online registration process who can best represent their participating students.
Remember, only students in grades 5–8 can participate in the Daily News Spelling Bee, and school registrations must be submitted by November 2. Registrations submitted after the November 2 deadline will not be accepted, and schools must hold a local spelling bee by November 16, 2018.
